До всемирного дня диабета!

Ведущие организации Соединённых Штатов объединятся, чтобы подтолкнуть специальное заседание генеральной ассамблеи ООН по неинфекционным заболеваниям

The new group is asking the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, to support the proposed United Nations summit on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to be held in September 2011.

“History is being made. This is the first time we have seen these three very powerful US associations working together to support our global advocacy,” said Ann Keeling, CEO of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).

“It’s very encouraging to see the three US associations lending their voice to our call for a United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on NCDs. We have seen the same thing recently in the Netherlands and in Australia last November, and we hope this will inspire associations in other countries to join together to lobby their government as well,” Ms Keeling added.

The NCD alliance is comprised of IDF and its sister federations, the World Heart Federation (WHF), the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. Together, the alliance reaches a global network of over 880 national associations in 170 countries worldwide.

NCDs, which include cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic lung diseases, claim more than 35 million lives each year, accounting for approximately 60 percent of all deaths worldwide. A UNGASS on NCDs will help mobilize the international community and secure the government action required to reverse the epidemic.
